NMVTIS Consumer Access Product Disclaimer
The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) is a federal database that provides access to certain vehicle title and brand history records for automobiles titled in the United States. While it is a reliable resource for title status and branding data, it does not include detailed information regarding a vehicle’s maintenance or repair history.
Under federal law, state titling agencies, insurance companies, and salvage or junkyards are required to submit data to NMVTIS regularly. However, coverage is not comprehensive—some states do not report at all, and those that do may update at different intervals, ranging from real-time to delays of several days.
Significant vehicle damage may not appear in NMVTIS if the vehicle was never officially designated as a “total loss” or branded accordingly. Conversely, a vehicle may appear as a total loss in the system even if a state has not applied a corresponding brand such as “salvage” or “junk.”
NMVTIS reports, including those available through certifiedvinreport.com, are not a replacement for a full mechanical inspection. We strongly advise consumers to have used vehicles independently inspected by a trusted professional. While NMVTIS-approved data providers may offer additional insights from other sources, the NMVTIS system itself provides the following:
Title data from participating state motor vehicle departments
Records for various vehicle types, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, and more (commercial vehicles may be excluded in some states)
Branding information (e.g., flood, salvage, rebuilt), which varies by state and helps assess vehicle condition
The latest odometer reading recorded in a state’s official title history
Data reported by insurance companies and recyclers identifying total loss vehicles from March 31, 2009, onward
Reports from salvage and junkyards involved in the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act of 2009 (CARS) program
Data Source and Legal Disclaimer

All parties involved in the aggregation and delivery of this report disclaim any liability for errors, omissions, or incomplete information.
Additionally, all warranties—express or implied—are hereby disclaimed, including but not limited to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Reports are provided strictly “as is” and “as available.”
